FAQ

WHAT IS THE SILVER CIRCLE?
The Silver Circle is a night elf themed adventure role playing guild on the World of Warcraft Wyrmrest Accord realm.

The guild is exclusively open to kaldorei and shen'dralar highborne characters. As a night elf adventurers’ guild, we cater to a unique blend of themes, meaning we tap into a lot of the elements that make the night elves what we know and love. Our agenda is the defense of nature, kaldorei settlements, and Alliance fronts from all enemies. It is also to follow the destiny of the kaldorei, to see Elune’s will of peace spread throughout the lands of Azeroth. The events we run and the role play we do will generally focus on this central theme, and members will be expected to participate in this discourse.

WHAT SORT OF MEMBERS DOES THE SILVER CIRCLE LOOK FOR?
We are actively on the lookout for new members who would like to become part of a guild with a strong focus on good, solid roleplaying, without unnecessary concern for arbitrary "good role-playing rules". We want members who take initiative, share their own roleplaying ideas and help add to the overall atmosphere of the guild.

Silver Circle is a cooperative effort. We try to gather people together who all want to participate and create and add to the experience for the other members. This is not a guild that will "entertain you" when you are "booooored". It's a guild where you will have far more fun if you get involved.

WHAT SORT OF CLASSES AND PLAYERS IS THE SILVER CIRCLE LOOKING FOR?
All classes are equally welcome, sans Deathknights and Demon Hunters, though we only recruit elves of kaldorei descent, including night elves or highborne. That being said, anyone born outside kaldorei society has an opportunity to prove themselves to the Circle. Inquire within if you're not a night elf but are interested in joining some of our role play events.

We do not accept archmages, archdruids, characters with endless mana or energy, or characters heroically on par or stronger than major World of Warcraft heroes. We do not want to be a location where you can go "god mode" on everyone. We want to invite characters that help make the world more realistic, believable and immersive.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT OF SILVER CIRCLE MEMBERS?
We expect you to play actively, although not fanatically. We also expect you to provide a written character background and a screenshot avatar for our website fairly soon after you join.

We expect you to be an active participant in the guild, and to exercise your judgment about how you treat other people on an out of character level. We expect you to act in a mature manner generally. This does not mean no fooling around - we have lots of that, and it is what makes the guild what it is. It means that when you have issues, problems or concerns, that you deal with them in an adult fashion.

WHAT DOES THE SILVER CIRCLE OFFER?
We offer a friendly and intimate atmosphere, where guild members and allies are engaged and work together to help add to the guild story and the overall feeling of immersion in the role play community. We strive for an open, pleasant and fun environment, and welcome members who will add to this, and embrace the tone we already have.

What makes the Silver Circle unique is our achievement-based role-playing opportunities. We offer a personalized system for members to fulfill character development needs, called Paths, in which members can earn seals, a title, and be part of a personalized ceremony. There are four distinctive Paths, which enables members to progress their characters in an authentic way.

In addition to immersive character progression, the Silver Circle offers various Quests for members to undertake at any time. Members instigate what occurs, and help add to developing the guild story.

IS JOINING THE WEBSITE NECESSARY?
Joining the website is a necessary part of the recruitment process because it functions as our Rule Agreement. The site also contains the core of what we do. Events are posted here, ideas discussed and all the community building takes place here. Members are expected to keep an eye on the Site and watch for upcoming events, which can be made by all members of the Silver Circle and Affiliates who are a part of the website.

The Site is also an integral part of our achievement-based role play. Here, members post their in-character reports to receive credit for Guild Quests and tasks for Circle Paths.

HOW DO I JOIN?
In order to begin the recruitment process with us all you need to do is initiate role-play with us by attending some of our events or by enjoying some walk-up role-play with our members. After taking time for you to get to know the guild and become acquainted with its members, and if we think that we can mesh well together, you will be invited to join a Council Glade event. These elven moots take place once every 23 days on a rotating schedule. Characters who are interested in joining are expected to pledge to order's cause to become official members in character.

WHAT INITIAL THINGS SHOULD I DO AFTER JOINING?
Take the time to have a look at the website - there is a lot so try not to let it intimidate you. Read over the Rules and Regulations if you haven't already, and browse the Information tabs.

You should also expect to be assigned one or more tasks by the Keeper or by other Circle members during the first month. This is a way to get to know you, and for you to get to know the guild. Joining our casual role play is a good place to start.

Also, the Silver Circle follows four Paths: Path of the Wild, Path of the Hunt, Path of the Moon, and the Path of War. Your character may be asked some questions about which of these ideologies he or she wishes to follow. Take a look at the website under Circle Paths for more details about them before you decide.

WHAT TIMES ARE MEMBERS MOST ACTIVE?
Between 4:30pm - 9:30pm server time are our peak activity hours. Members live from PST to EST and even BRT, so even if you are not always able to be online during peak activity hours there is usually someone up and about.

WHAT IS THE GUILD POSITION ON CANON LORE VERSUS HEADCANON?
Canon lore does take precedence over headcanon or fan-made lore within Silver Circle. This is because canon lore can be read and shared more readily than lore made by a single individual, and abiding by canon provides all members with shared common knowledge of the World of Warcraft universe that we are roleplaying in. If you do roleplay a character that bends the canon lore only slightly, chances are you will not run into issues while roleplaying with us (though members might ask questions to get a better understanding). If you prefer not to follow the lore of World of Warcraft or roleplay a character that is deliberately lore-breaking, you may not have as good a time roleplaying with us as we do strongly prefer adhering to canon lore.

CAN I STILL GET INVOLVED IN ROLEPLAY WITH SILVER CIRCLE IF I'M NOT INTERESTED IN JOINING?
Absolutely! You can even follow the introductory steps of our recruitment process to help get you started and engaged with us. There is never any pressure to join and our door is always open to those interested in roleplaying with us.

WHY DOESN'T SILVER CIRCLE ACCEPT DEMON HUNTERS OR DEATHKNIGHTS?
The guild lore and many storylines are centered around a 12,000+ year old sacred Elunarian flame and the ancient promise the kaldorei people made to Elune in ancient times. Every member that joins the order goes through a ritual to bind themselves to the sacred flame and by extension the ancient promise that was made to Elune millennia ago. Given the nature of the sacred fire and canon lore elements involving divine magic and demon or undead character types, as well as Elune's apparent outlook on such creature types, we simply are not comfortable with the negative implications and effects this could have on Demon Hunter or Deathknight characters.

We do hope someday soon that Blizzard will provide us with more avenues and explanations for demon hunters and deathknights so that we can consider them in the future. We do welcome players of these characters to RP with us regardless of guild tags, but we kindly ask that our guild theme, recruitment policies and preferences be respected.

IF THE GUILD DOESN'T ACCEPT EVERYONE, HOW IS IT INCLUSIVE?
To us, being inclusive is about roleplaying with others and engaging in the community. It's not about giving everyone a guild tag, title or pushing specific stories or being insular. To be inclusive is the opposite of all of those things. We welcome anyone to come roleplay with us, regardless of character faction, class, race, creed, or guild tag.

DO YOU EXPECT PEOPLE WHO ROLEPLAY WITH THE GUILD TO ABIDE BY THE GUILD RULES, EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT MEMBERS?
Majority of the guild policies and rules are in place specifically for Silver Circle and its members. However, the Silver Circle does uphold Blizzard Entertainment's game rules and code of conduct and we do expect everyone we interact with to abide by the rules of World of Warcraft. We expect those who seek to interact with us to be respectful of everyone, draw a line between IC and OOC, to communicate with us if they have concerns, and to avoid escalating issues or causing undue drama. Silver Circle does not tolerate harassment, hate speech, discriminatory language, obscene or disruptive language, trolling, griefing, throwing, feeding, constant complaints, toxicity, or habits that make others uncomfortable or intentionally detract from others' enjoyment of the game. Unacceptable behavior is determined by player reports (i.e. screenshots & chat log evidence) followed by mediation. We only remove players from our channels who have been found violating these guidelines, and will follow it up with a report to Blizzard if necessary.

ARE EVENTS MANDATORY?
No.

ARE GUILD PATHS MANDATORY?
No. The path system is an optional feature in the Silver Circle, and while members are encouraged to participate to their fullest capacity in the guild, progressing in a path is not mandatory. For more information about the Path System, visit the Paths Page, or the Paths Q&A.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE UNTIL SOMEONE INTERESTED IN JOINING IS CONSIDERED READY TO RECEIVE A GUILD INVITATION?
Everyone reaches the invite stage at their own pace, based on their availability and preferences. We recruit based on activity through interaction. Players who are invested in their characters and who take initiative to get to know us and play with us actively are generally considered or interviewed within a few weeks, again pending availability and the player's integration preferences for themselves and their character.
