"Legend says that long ago, the Night Warrior was used by the night elves to carve out their empire. None who have attempted the ritual since then have survived, for Elune's raw power tears them apart..."

"The time has come that I release what was given to me. My duty to our people and our Goddess has been fulfilled. Adore Zin'Elune, banu eran'ore rae melore."

Some ideas to get thoughts rolling

  • The ceremony itself
  • Requirements
  • Backlash socially or physically
  • Should it even be possible
  • What wiLL ELUNE THINK???

I've had a lot of thoughts about the Night Warrior over the last few years since the story itself came out. By and large, it's not nearly as strong as Tyrande's imbuing of the Night Warrior so it doesn't necessarily come with the same drawbacks. Something that I think should be addressed and talked about, however, is how some of the people have RP'd it out, as well as how it's also been shown in game.

If we're going under the idea that every player that has the Night Warrior enhancement has gone through the ritual wherein you quite literally sacrifice flesh of the enemy (like it has been shown in game by Tyrande herself) then I think there needs to be severe/irreversible repercussions. While not the EXACT same, it's no less reminiscent of the way that Illidari do go about their own imbuement with the Demonic powers. Obvious the powers that are given are different, as are the physical changes and overall downsides, but it's no less powerful. Be it a permanent change to one's temperance (maybe a quicker temper or higher peaks of rage) or maybe even withdrawls and want for that power to return. This is under the assumption that players are going under a similar, equally powerful ritual to gain the power much like Tyrande did.

If on the other hand, players are simply getting the imbuement second hand like many in Darkshore did, I don't see any reason why it can't be reversed with less potent problems in the background.

A copypasta of some food for thought I wrote out in the #roleplay-workshop on our Guild Discord!

There is no canon information to support the blessing being permanent OR temporary
All of that is shit we came up with ourselves
The one thing we do know is that becoming the Avatar of the Night Warrior is not something that is sustainable long-term
It is meant to be invoked only in times of great strife, for the power and resilience it demands of its vessel is massive, and once that time passes you should let it go
We see this with Shandris's exclamation to Tyrande post-N'zoth's defeat, where she begs her to relinquish the NW's gift and "return to the Mother's light"
So, really, when it comes to relevant evidence -- so far it would seem that the NW's gift is something a person has to actively beseech, and then actively choose to discard
Otherwise it will stay with you

I would like to note there is an important distinction to be made between an "Avatar" of the Night Warrior and "Blessings" of the Night Warrior. Tyrande is the Avatar -- she is currently the one and only primary vessel of the Night Warrior and has taken essentially the whole of Her aspect and become one with it. What our characters are receiving are Blessings. They are lesser in impact, can be spread amongst many individuals, and perhaps most importantly, are nowhere near the amount of power that Tyrande is channeling because Tyrande's got a literal heckin half of a goddess inside her atm.

All stuff to keep in mind during the headcanon construction!

I had initially created a discord DM for brainstorm, and gained a LOT of insight and ideas there. To be clear about my reasoning for creating this thread, I am interested in Celassa releasing the Night Warrior blessing, finally. Considering she took on the 'longest' form of the blessing (1 yr) and it has been well over a year (time is strange) I am inquiring as to what others might find interesting if there were to be a 'required' ceremony to relinquish the blessing. Or if it should just be a personal decision she made and boom she is reverted back to her original state.

One path is exceptionally easier and far less involved in relation to RP. Whereas the other could absolutely become an event, though said event might be less interesting to those attending seeing as the ceremony would really revolve around one character (of course, others who are also interested in releasing the NW for their characters would be more than welcome to join in the ceremony) And I would not want anyone to feel obligated to attend an event where they would not be involved in comparison to our normal events.
