Cats

“Cats out of the Moon well.” - Kaldorei Sentinel

Knowledge:
Cats, they are wild and domesticated. There are many different shapes and sizes, from small to large. House cats make common pets, yet the ones I talk about in this guide are of the larger variety. There are lions, tigers, cheetahs, panthers, and even sabers. Most common among these would be the saber, as this cat is used as mounts for the Kaldorei people. Mana sabers are also a variant, tho of the arcane variety. These arcane cats are used by the Shal’dorei mostly. The basics of any cat though is that it has four paws with sharp claws. A head with intelligent eyes, that can see in the dark and a maw that contains sharp teeth. Cats are some of the sneakiest predators on our world and even others. Most sabers are thought to be descendants from the wild god Ashmane, and striped Nightsabers are rumored to get their stripes from Elune to blend into the forest.

Befriending:
Making friends with a saber can be a tricky thing, as like most cats they are very independent animals. If they want attention they will come to you, or be fed when they are ready. They think it’s all about them. Be sure when training your saber to be firm with them, let them know that you are the provider. For grooming brush their coats and make sure it’s not tangled. Check their paws and claws for any damage regularly. When you have a riding saber, make sure to only have the saddle on when your riding. Do take it off your saber when you are not, or it can chafe the skin and cause irritation.

Level suggested for Taming: Average

The Spirit of and its Meanings:
If you have the spirit of a cat, you are highly independent. You will do things on your time and when you want to do them. Though if someone had earned your trust, you make a great and loyal companion.

These creatures are smart and will protect what they think is theirs. If you are so lucky to befriend one of these marvelous creatures, do brush their fur regularly. Core Hounds

“By fire be… Puppies!” - Dark Iron child

Knowledge:
Core hounds are molten magma and fire elemental beasts. They originate from the elemental plane of fire itself. Most core hounds are two headed beasts, though there are a smaller variety with only one head. These are used as mounts by the Dark Iron Dwarves. The sire to most core hounds is Magmadar, and can be traced back to his lineage. Magmadar is the oldest and most powerful of these creatures.

The fire verity of core hound is most common but there are a few in this classification that are slightly different. There are of course Fel fire core hounds, that burn with the intensity of the fel magic.

Drakeadons are classified in the Core hound family. Though these creatures are experiments from the black dragonflight, and where made from the same experiment that made the chromatic dragon flight. The Drakeadons are a two headed draconic beast, that usually have a violet scale skin tone. Like the chromatic flight these smaller creatures have the powers of all five dragon flights.

Nian are two headed dog like beasts, they can also be categorized as demons. The Nian are more dog and wolf like in appearance, and are a very rare bread in the core hound family. Most are not seen very often and most are myths. The most famous of the Nian is Omen. Omen used to be a wild god, and blessed by the goddess Elune. Sadly Omen was corrupted by fel energies during the War of the Ancients. His wounds where so great that the wild god was consumed by nightmares. He was forced to be sealed away by brave hero’s in the city of Nighthaveb in Moonglade, and was placed beneath the lake of Elune’ara. It is unknown if Omen is the sire of other Nian, but there are others in the world, if you can find them.

Befriending:
Befriending a member of the Core Hound family can be a daunting task. Fire is common among these creatures, so one must be careful not to get burned. Use fire resistant armor when interacting with your fiery friend. These are loyal companions if you can manage to make a friend. They are sometimes called the guard dogs of hell, or of flame. Make sure when grooming your core hound you do not extinguish their flames, or wash with water for the molten ones.

Level suggested for Taming: Expert (Exotic)

The Spirit of and its Meanings:
If you have a spirit of a core hound, you are a very spirited personality. You can have a fiery disposition and can be quick to anger. Though this also can make you a very passionate lover, and companion for those who choose to steal your heart.

Hippogryphs are half raven and half stag creatures, who are friends to the Kaldorei people. These intelligent creatures, protect the forests of Kalimdor with might and grace. Some say Cenarius created the Hippogryph as a gift to the children of the stars. Hippogryphs can understand sentences, and codes. Along with a code tapping system against their feathers, as it is easier for the creatures to get directions from their riders that way then shouting over the winds. One of the first Kaldorei to speak to the hippogryphs was Dorendil Wildcaller of Suramar.

Owlcat

Owlcats are feline owl like creatures, who are similar to wildkins, aside from their cat like features. These creatures are native to the Broken Isles, and appear to have a king of their clan, Yowlon the King of the Feathermane Owlcats. There is apparently a wild god too, known as Ela’lothen. It was rumored they were used as mounts a very long time ago.

Wolfhawk

Wolfhawks are as their name implied, half wolf and half hawk like mammal creatures. The great spirit of the wolfhawk is known as Haukenulfnir, who stalked the wilds when the world was new. Haukenulfnir, dwells in the Fields of the Eternal Hunt in the Halls of Valor, now. Her children walk the world and only the mightiest hunters who earn her blessing may tame one of these great beasts, or befriend them. Though you may try if you wish.

Wyvern

"I still don't get why they fly faster when you put armor on them."
— Drakma

Wyverns are also known as Wind Riders, or War Riders. They are a combination of a wolfish-lion with bat wings and scorpion tail. They are native to Kalimdore and are very sentient creatures. They can speak and understand Orcish and Taur-ahe, but they can not understand Common. Both the Males and females of these creatures have beards. It is said that Wyvern’s have a common ancestry to both dragons and gryphons. They are favored mounts to the Horde, though mostly the Orcs.

Befriending:
Befriending a Feathermane can be tricky business, as most of these creatures are cunning and smart individuales. Do not treat these creatures like common beasts, as if you do they will rip your head off. Grooming your Feathermane is usually pretty simple, with maintaining their feathers and coats. Wash the coats and not the feathers, it's pretty easy. Though most will take care of themselves.

Level suggested for Taming: Hard [Tome of the Hybrid Beast]

The Spirit of and its Meanings:
If you have the spirit of a Feathermane, you are a very intelligent and wild creature. People will marvel at you for your ferocity but brains as you make hard decisions or work out problems. Those that get close to you know your weaknesses and protect it fiercely, as it is a prize in itself to get close to you.
