Gregor sucked in his breath as he watched from his vantage, huddled behind an old stump. He'd seen kaldorei before but this was different, very different.

Before him the graceful figures seemed to float over the ground, long red robes brushing over dry leaves without a rustle. In every hand a lantern, its dim light casting flickering shadows onto the mighty trunks that made the forest's vastness seem close. Most striking of all though was their voices. Raised in song or prayer the human could not tell, but their beauty was such that he blinked back tears and felt a shiver run down his spine. Perhaps they were ghosts, not real elves at all.

Only one thing was certain, he'd hold his grandchildren enthralled with his tale of the red robed elves.

Feel free to use this thread to brainstorm more ideas for this holiday event. Perhaps for different locations or new modern twists to the traditional holiday. This is meant to be a grab & go holiday event for those who need help with the "Sacred Celebrations" task for the Path of the Wild. Multiple hosts can work together to run a single holiday event and receive credit, but each host must organize a specific piece of the holiday.

IllURIDEI - THE WATCHER'S FLAME
Illuridei or "The Watcher's Flame" is a turning of the seasons ceremony. Leaves turn from green to a fireworks display of red and gold while heavy headed crops sway in the fields.

The autumnal equinox is the ceremony of the Watchers Flame. It is celebrated from the breadbasket of kaldorei society, Ashenvale Forest. Held at night, a procession of kaldorei in red clothes bearing lanterns set out from Astranaar to the historic memorials in Azshara. Upon arrival, each of the gathered receives the blessing of Elune for strength and wisdom.

A bounty of harvest is then prepared, where the past can be remembered and memories shared of times gone by. Songs, stories, poems and gifts are all exchanged at this event.

THINGS TO DO
Beginning at Astranaar at nightfall, event hosts will lead a procession of lantern-bearers through Ashenvale and into Azshara.

Welcome Speeches
Opening words by the event organizers. This is also a good time to pass out items to participants such as extra robes, luminary off-hand items, and the Inky Black Potion.

Socialize
The procession is a chance for guilds and individual characters to experience this ancient Kaldorei tradition and participate in an open event with the wider community; a chance to meet old friends, make new ones, and demonstrate your faith to allies and rivals alike.

Seasonal Offerings
On top of revering Elune and the Ancient Guardians, the kaldorei also revere their ancestors. This reverence is respected in the form of offerings, traditionally rice cakes that are blessed in the temple of the moon. Participants are encouraged to arrive to the event with a rice cake. After the procession, guests are welcome to place their offering at the memorial in Azshara and say a few words.

Story Circles
The kaldorei are an ancient race, most of them having lived from hundreds to thousands of years. Most know a great many tales, stories and teaching reminiscences to share with one another. After the offerings, guests gather in small groups about the memorials in Azshara for storytelling.

Oh this is really neat, I dig it.

It's kinda like a thanks giving day in a fashion, pay your respects to your ancestors and the earth, spend time with each other and then feast.

Made a doc so that those whom want to host this along side myself, and Rose can keep all the ideas in one place and make the most of this holiday.

I think organized story circles are a good idea for this event, since it's more of a social and spectacle event above anything else.

If this is server-wide and other races are also invited, there should be multiple story circle groups during the gathering. Somewhere between 4-5 story circle groups that participants can wander by and join in. Each group could have a particular theme?

The idea of the groups is to consolidate and allow for more people to participate in the story portion of the event. This way, multiple stories can be told simultaneously. But stories should have a limited length, or word cap, to prevent any one person from going too long. Roughly 3-4 stories could be told per group, making for 12-20 unique stories for the event. Sign ups are something that should be done in advance, in my opinion.

Given it has a sort of halloween/thanksgiving vibe, i'd love to make it a server event. maybe even have it go more than a single day if people are feeling up to doing something like that.

Ex day one, hunting and gathering early on, preparing a feast, coming together, dancing, telling stories enjoying a feast. and then the next day we do the vigil from astraanar to azshara perhaps?

I don't think having this particular event span multiple days is a good idea, as it is a celebration of the autumn equinox, which is only a singular moment on a single day out of the whole year. Aside from that, I personally think it would make it overly complicated.

A different, more Halloween or Thanksgiving related celebration would be better off on its own and has more potential to be a multi-day festival. Ultimately, this event isn't really either one, but shares some elements with both. Make it unique!

Furthermore, this does have the potential to be a server or community-wide event, but take heed - organizing such a thing would not be easy. The event's origin as a cultural celebration of the changing seasons should be kept in mind at all times. It is a good choice to get other races in on the traditions.

I think Friday 9/22/17 or Saturday 9/23/17 would be the most ideal dates for the holiday, and I agree with Shaureyne. Adding too much to this simple social holiday might take away from the other holidays later in the season. But your great ideas could be recycled into those other holidays later on, like Lahassa (elven thanksgiving). The Elunian Calendar has a lot of other holiday information on it as well.

I was under the impression that we were to walk to Azshara and have a story circle with some treats while giving our rice cakes as an offering. That was all I thought we were planning in the doc but I hadn't been following the posts in the thread.

Going to go with the 22 as the Equinox is on that day. Going forward we shall plan for something simple and in remembrance. I believe Kelthanos has planned a feast of sorts, so Moon and I can handle this and if anyone wants to assist, by all means. Continue to post and give ideas in the doc.
